There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, features 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
